To ensure that students have time to complete the course registration packet and pre-test prior to attending the class, registration for this course will close at 8:00AM EST seven days before the first day of class.

This course is based on the National Renewable Energy Laboratory/U.S. Department of Energy Job Task Analysis (JTA) of the same name. In this three-day course, students will learn to assess the work performed against the work plan, understand specifications and standards, perform building and safety diagnostics, record and report findings and concerns, specify corrective actions, communicate effectively with the client, and determine the final pass/fail of the work performed. Students will take one written test at the conclusion of the class. Upon successful completion of the course work and test, each student will receive a certificate of completion.

This course is designed to prepare students to challenge the BPI Home Energy Professional (HEP) Quality Control Inspector certification exam and is suitable for those with field experience as an energy auditor.

Course objectives: Perform diagnostic testing, manage crew and contractors, ensure job site safety, communication with clients and crew, workload management, oversight of retrofit installation.

Skills taught: Students will develop skills in basic building science, interpreting results from diagnostic equipment, job site management, identifying safety hazards, and communication with clients and crew.

Prerequisites: Students must complete an online pre-test; a score of 80% or higher is required for admission to the class.

Continuing education units (CEUs): This course is approved for 22.5 BPI CEUs.
Note: The BPI Home Energy Professional Quality Control Inspector certification is a separate test with an additional fee.
