Description
To ensure that students have time to complete the course registration packet and pre-test prior to attending the class, registration for this course will close at 8:00AM EST seven days before the first day of class.

This course is based on a National Renewable Energy Laboratory/U.S. Department of Energy Job Task Analysis (JTA) of the same name. The one-week Crew Leader course is designed to ensure quality through supervision of the installation and performance of weatherization measures defined in each project’s work scope developed during the auditing/estimating process. Students are taught to ensure quality installation of weatherization measures through oversight of crew member performance. Students will take one written and two hands-on tests at the conclusion of the class. Upon successful completion of the course work and tests, each student will receive a certificate of completion.

This course is designed to prepare students to challenge the BPI Home Energy Professional (HEP) Crew Leader certification exams and is suitable for those with field experience as a Crew Leader or Retrofit Installer Technician.

Course objectives: Perform diagnostic testing, manage crew and contractors, ensure job site safety, communication with clients and crew, workload management, oversight of retrofit installation.

Skills taught: Students will develop skills in basic building science, interpreting results from diagnostic equipment, job site management, identifying safety hazards, and communication with clients and crew.

Prerequisites: Students must complete an online pre-test; a score of 80% or higher is required for admission to the class.

Continuing education units (CEUs): This course is approved for 8.75 BPI CEUs.

Note: The BPI Home Energy Professional Crew Leader certification is a separate test with an additional fee.
